Training

Our training for project leaders (Green Belts, Kaizen Leaders, Black Belts and Master Black Belts) is based upon an integrated Lean and Six Sigma curriculum featuring DMAIC methodology (Design—Measure—Analyze—Improve—Control) to improve business processes. Courses are designed to provide 30% classroom lecture and 70% activities (group and individual exercises and simulations) to help enhance and reinforce key learnings.

How do our clients get faster, reliable results in about half the time?  Our curriculum focuses on project management and facilitation tools, aka the soft skills that gets projects done faster.

Hands-On Activities

Leadership/Sponsor Training

During the one day leadership training, your team will spend the morning experiencing process improvement tools through an interactive simulation called Rapid Jet. It’s a fast paced, engaging way to learn process improvement basics and will start to identify and document specific projects that can be chartered. The team also learns the deployment structure and timeline, and how to help the deployment team. Leadership training is a pre-requisite for sponsor training.

During the one day sponsor training, your team will write and complete project charters, understand their role as project sponsors and learn how the tollgate process can help drive rapid results.

Course Duration:  One day for Leadership + one day for Sponsor

Green Belt (GB) Training

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training is designed to help provide individuals and teams with the principles, practices, and tools of Lean Six Sigma to improve business processes for 8-25 candidates. This class teaches the foundation of the DMAIC approach (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control).  The two weeks are designed to provide the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt candidate with a core toolset that can be used to improve cycle time, reduce waste and variation and improve quality.

Course Duration:  Two Weeks

Kaizen Leader (KL)

Kaizen Leader training is focused on practical tools and exercises to prepare for and lead a kaizen event for 6, 9 or 12 candidates.  The classroom time is normally two weeks, but can be done in one week if candidates have already attended Green Belt or Black Belt training.  Teams of three kaizen leaders each will sit together and work on a shared project throughout the class. Over 25% of the class time is devoted to pre-work for the actual projects that will be run as kaizen events by the attendees. In addition to traditional topics from lean six sigma, kaizen leader training includes tools and practice for pre-work, kaizen event facilitation and follow-up.  Kaizen leader training is usually part of a kaizen leader program, which runs kaizens events immediately after training to get rapid results.

Course Duration:  Two Weeks

Black Belt (BB) Training

Lean Six Sigma Black Belt training is designed to help provide individuals and teams with the principles, practices, and more advanced tools of Lean Six Sigma to improve business processes for 8-25 candidates.  This class builds on the DMAIC approach (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) and teaches Black Belt candidates the statistical analysis tools to improve quality and reduce variation.  Minitab statistical analysis software is required for this course.

Course Duration:  Two Weeks (see note below)

Note: Green Belt or Kaizen Leader is a prerequisite for Black Belt training.  Many companies prefer this modular approach to developing Black Belts, since they can complete their first wave of projects after Green Belt or Kaizen Leader training and continue with two additional weeks of Black Belt training to gain the full lean six sigma toolset.

Expert Coaching

Expert Coaching follows a one-on-one support model, between a RCI Consulting certified Master Black Belt and a newly trained project leader, providing technical and non-technical, or “soft” coaching to accelerate project completion and improve the quality of their results. Coaching occurs outside training weeks through biweekly meetings, starting just before training and going through project completion.

Certification

Lean Six Sigma certification is  combination of both technical knowledge and practical demonstration of the tools.  Technical knowledge is measured by attending the classroom training and passing the final exam.  Practical knowledge is demonstrated by completing projects – typically two projects for Black Belt or Kaizen Leader, one project for Green Belts.   The practical demonstration for Master Black Belt certification is either teaching a full wave of training, coaching five or more project leaders through certification, delivering a large hard savings through personally-led projects or a combination of the three.  RCI Consulting will work with your leadership to provide appropriate certification for all levels of project leaders.

Note:  Lean Six Sigma certification is never granted for classroom training only.

Master Black Belt training

Master Black Belt training is designed to develop internal trainers, coaches and leaders of complex, cross-functional projects.  This class is customized to the role of the master black belt at your company, which affects the duration and number of topics and methods covered.

Course Duration:  A technical master black belt training for leading complex project is two weeks, a traditional master black belt training to prepare for training and coaching is three weeks, and deep dive electives exist that can add up to four or five weeks.

Note:  Black Belt certification is a prerequisite for Master Black Belt training.
